In Your Ears Vol1

When people say they like music I don’t believe them. Not because I think they’re lying but because I think you can’t just like music. Music is either in you or it’s not. Music is a part of me. It is entrenched in my DNA; packed between my father’s eyes and mother’s smile. Synths creep into my bloodstream and my heartbeat synchronizes with snare beats. Hauntingly beautiful vocals are soundtracks for my daydreams and ignorant stories of gang money, drugs, and sex fill my walks home. However, whenever I’m in my grandfather’s Lincoln only old jazz and blues will feel right- station 91.1 to be exact and sometimes, when I’m really homesick, I’ll stream Q107.9 to remind me of drives to school with my dad.  There’s a place all types of music. I believe that to be a truth.

I think being a part of the music community means sharing. How else are you supposed to find good music in this overpopulated digital age? So, here are the songs of the day, maybe week if they prove to be good (for dancing around your apartment and hoping your neighbours aren’t watching, but fuck it if they are) songs.

“Old Love/New Love” Shadow Child

This has been on repeat for a solid two months because of well, everything. It’s a must listen. You think you know new disco, but you have no idea. I give this song 9 Amy Adams’ sideboobs out of 10.

“Waiting for Tonight” J Lo (Bobby Love remix)

My main homie Bobby Love has crafted this insane mix of one of J Lo’s classic hits, “Waiting for Tonight”. Bobby was right, J Lo needed more big bass to go with that big booty. Shhhhake shhhhake dat ass girl.

“Gangsta” ScHoolboy Q

Off of his third studio album, Oxymoron, Schoolboy graces us with the hood version of a banger. Yes, please.

“Say You’ll be There” Mo

Spice World Forever!

“Happiest Man Alive” Machel Montano

Carnival is going off in Rio right now and with the islands following suit in the spring, this is the best time of year for Soca/Dancehall releases. Think of it as the WMC of the Soca universe . It is definitely exciting but, carnival wouldn’t be complete without a new jam from the king of winning himself, Montano. In my mind, Bend Over is still unbeatable, but here’s his 2014 Carnival track. I dare you to not smile.

“Of the Night” Secaina Hudson (Bastille Refix/Cover)

Secaina popped up on my Soundcloud when she was reposted by one of my favourite artists and producers, MNEK. She samples a classic and adds her unmistakeable vocals and a heavy bassline. K fine.

“Don’t Call Me Baby” Madison Avenue (Motez Vicious21 Remix)

Get realllllllly deep with this one. . This classic R&B sample gets an added boost by Motez on this deep house remix that is a must listen.

Now go dance your little heart out! But sweetie, remember to throw on some heels when dancing around your room- practice how you play.

Stalk me on Soundcloud-  ThatCBear .
