Only For the Story

Old ladies on a rollercoaster

Every once in awhile, more often if you’re lucky, you’re going to have to make a decision. You’re going to be in a situation where nothing is orthodox and even less is familiar. You won’t know where you’ll end up or with who (hint: it doesn’t matter). It could be a last minute change of plans, or a split second decision. Either way it comes about, say yes. Take on the challenge.

But don’t do it because they told you to and don’t do it because you think you have to. Don’t jump in the car because Buzzfeed told you 30 Things to do Before Turning 30 is go on a road trip. Don’t say yes because it’s the cool thing to do. Fuck being cool. Be whoever the hell you want to be at that exact moment. Throw away the rule book and stop judging everyone else for making their own choices. They are saying yes, and you’re stalling. Hard. But when you make that decision; when you hopefully say yes, do it for the story.

Your life is a story. So write a fuckin’ story. Live everyday with the intention of making it unique and anything but typical. Why be typical? You’ve heard those stories countless times. So make a story and make it magic.

Make it unforgettable.

Make every moment great.

Do it for the story. Do it because the chance will never come around again. Take the chance. Roll the dice. Do it for the fact that you’ll never be in that place at that time with those people ever again and you have to know that. You have to know that there are times in life when you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.  You’re on the beach at midnight.  You’ve got grabbed from the crowd to dance on stage.

It could happen at any minute. You talk to the right person in the drink line up. You share a smoke with the right stranger on a patio and suddenly you’re in a scene you swear you saw in Almost Famous.

This wasn’t supposed to happen, but it did.

Seize fate by the throat and do it for the story.
